2022 VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR NOMINEES

Each year, we encourage our Camp Encourage community to nominate a volunteer that has been especially exceptional. We are delighted to announce this year’s nominees and have included statements from each nomination. We’ll be announcing the selected individual at this year’s Holiday Gathering. Be watching our Facebook and Instagram for the exciting announcement as well! Wholehearted congrats to...

Julie Aldridge: Julie is such a staple at camp. She knows many of the kiddos and is always willing to jump in and help. She is also always prepared for anything!!

Greta Bins: Greta was so sweet with campers this weekend and waited up with her camper until she fell asleep. She joked around and bonded with so many campers and did an excellent job.

Elizabeth Boresow: She was so energized throughout the entire day and very inclusive in the activity she led.

She’s very kind and helpful.

She made sure to include everyone and was very fun.

Maggie Davis: It was her first session, and she did amazing. Many people talked about how great she did!

Lauren Gomez: (My daughter) enjoyed her company and we loved the pictures she sent us!

Josie Hayes: Josie has a great energy, shows up to volunteer frequently, and remembered by camper by name.

Katie Kain: Dependable. Kind, Organized. Committed. Selfless.

I appreciate her dedication to volunteering and supporting our campers and new volunteers like myself.

She was a fantastic mentor and helped me be a better counselor and she is always ready to volunteer. My daughter had an amazing time in her cabin with Katie and the rest of the team.

Nate Lannin: He has been volunteering for many years. He has a gift of having fun and recognizing needs and meeting them solo or with help.

Madison Larson: I was seriously blown away by Madison. She created incredible bonds with the campers & was constantly on her feet helping everyone & lighting up every space. Her bubbly, kind personality does not go unnoticed & she’s able to match her energy to each camper. Madison is such a talented, compassionate, caring soul who cares so deeply about everyone around her.

Danny McGeehan: He was patient and supportive with our son. He made us feel comfortable that our son was in capable hands with his great communication before camp and sending pictures during the activities.

Robert McKay: I believe Robert should be nominated because he is a great counselor. He would always pay attention to his assigned campers. Before camp, he would take important little notes about each. During camp, he was engaged with the campers and very present. When a camper needed help, he would try his best to help.

Katie Perryman: She took on a challenging role in the wake of her father’s death. This demonstrates her commitment to CE and the comfort she finds in her CE family.

Katie stepped in as group leader for me, when I couldn’t come until the 2nd day of camp. She has had some hardship recently, but she came ready and did an excellent job as group leader. I can really tell how much she has grown over the years, since I first met her at Camp Encourage, and I am really impressed with how she strived to support each member of our group.

Lacey Rozycki: She went above and beyond to help a camper in our group who was struggling with coping in ways that was harmful to himself. She spent a lot of time with him to get to know what helped calm him down and made that special connection with him. She was amazing!

Lacey was such an amazing group leader! She had the responsibility of leading groups 4 and 5 which was quite a large task! She handled organizing who attended which choice activities which was often a struggle with 14 campers. She also was the person each of us turned to when a camper’s behavior became frustrating or challenging. Leading group sessions at the start and end of the day with 14 campers is no easy task and she did her best to ensure the campers had a chance to reflect on each day’s activities. I really appreciated her support and I hope to have her as camp leader again next year!

Elizabeth Van Scoyoc: Elizabeth had twice led a group to perform onstage with absolute optimism and creative determination, making An Evening With the ‘Rents a complete success. She has put countless hours into supporting others and Camp Encourage and perfectly demonstrates how volunteers help make our organization be the best it can be.

Avery Welch: He knew it was my first time as a volunteer med staff and he went out of his way to make sure that I knew what I was doing, helping me to locate campers etc.

Michaela Winterscheidt: She was able to get her camper, who was reluctant, to participate in activities by encouraging her.
