We are updating you with disappointing news, dear camp family. Late last week, we were informed that Tall Oaks, the campgrounds in which we rent for our overnight camp sessions, would not be opening as planned on August 1st due to the resurgence of COVID-19.
This means that despite our strongest hopes that we might be able to safely gather, the day camp sessions that were scheduled for August 8th and 9th cannot take place. Although we understand and respect their decision to remain closed amid rising case numbers, we are absolutely devastated that we will be unable to host our campers as planned.
We know that now, more than ever, our campers need to feel accepted and loved. Now, more than ever, our campers need to know they are valued and be among friends. Please know that we understand the plethora of emotions each family may be experiencing right now, because each of us are experiencing them right alongside you.
If your camper was scheduled to attend the August 8th or 9th day camp session, you likely heard from our programming staff yesterday and know that we will begin issuing refunds to those who’ve already submitted payment for the August session later this week.
Since Tall Oaks is uncertain as to when it will be safe to reopen their campgrounds and because health and safety is of utmost priority, we feel it’s best to cancel all remaining 2020 overnight sessions.
But, fear not. In place of traditional overnight programming, we plan to hold smaller, socially distanced CONNECTIONS events. In fact, this past weekend, a small group of campers gathered and painted some beautiful masterpieces. We also will be continuing our virtual opportunities. Be watching our social media outlets, our website, and your email inbox for information on future CONNECTIONS outings and on VIRTUAL programming.
We absolutely realize nothing can compare to overnight camp (for OH! so many reasons!) but, we feel it’s crucial to remain connected and encouraged during these unordinary days.
We encourage each in our community to take care of yourself and one another. We have been holding and will continue to hold each of you in our hearts. May you find peace amid the uncertainty. And may you know that we are here for you. Even in these challenging times, Camp Encourage will continue to be a space for encouragement and growth.
Our hearts are broken but brighter and healthy days are ahead.
