March 17, 2020
I’m writing with disappointing news. The March 2020 Overnight camp session scheduled for this weekend is not going forward as planned.
After careful consideration and out of love for one another, the staff and Board of Directors of Camp Encourage came to the heartbreaking decision that we cannot in good conscience put the health and safety of our camp participants and their loved ones at risk given the current outbreak of COVID-19. It is our intention that our efforts will protect the vulnerable and support our health care systems so that they are better prepared to treat those most in need.
If you or your camper were planning to be at camp this weekend, Aimee Gorrow sent an email your way that includes helpful information about the rescheduled session and details regarding your options.
Regarding our SUMMER camps…
We are holding on to hope that our summer camps will not be impacted thus we are moving forward with plans for each. Should anything change, we will provide updates.
We encourage all in our community to take care of ourselves and one another in this challenging and unpredictable time. For your own health and wellbeing, please reference helpful tips from the World Health Organization (WHO).
I’m particularly appreciative of our Program Coordinator, Aimee Gorrow; Behavior Specialist, Sandy Smith; and volunteers who have put so much thought, work, love, and energy into planning the past several months. I also extend immense thanks to each parent that has been preparing his or her child for this special experience.
The year 2020 is providing to provide even more curveballs than we expected. Even in these challenging times, please know that Camp Encourage will continue to be a space for encouragement and growth.
These are extremely unusual and difficult times for all, and we request that you keep Camp Encourage and other nonprofit organizations in mind as we try to navigate the implications that this creates for us.
Our hearts are broken but brighter days and hopefully healthy days are ahead.
Longing for camp more than ever,
Kelly Lee
